Elephant females live together with their young in tight-knit family groups led by a warrior and protector matriarch. Males may come and go, but females always stick together and work cooperatively. They know instinctively that creating a tight herd will make them and each succeeding generation stronger.
Tembo’s elephant print represents this family relationship–the matriarch in the center surrounded by her female herd. Along our border are lone elephants representing the males. All knitted together with patterning inspired by African mud cloth.
Today elephants in Africa are threatened by poaching, loss of their habitat and increased human-wildlife conflict. That is why 5% of our profits from “Elephant Family” proceeds will go to Bhejane Trust a non-profit organization working to keep wildlife watered and safe in Zimbabwe’s National Parks.
